Overview
The Biomedical Students’ Association (BMSA) is a unique, multi-disciplinary collaboration of all the students from VIT’s Biomedical Engineering. All the students from the biomedical stream of the college are members of the association and are being guided by trained and efficient students’ council from the same stream.
Goals
Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to integrate the principles of medicine, biology and life sciences with those of engineering. It applies the methods of engineering, the physical sciences and mathematics to the solution of problems in the clinical and life sciences, and uses the principles and techniques of the life sciences in engineering.
Scope
The BMSA is formed with an interest in using tools of the physical sciences to advance and understand problems in the biological and medical sciences. The result is a community of biomedical engineers who are linked together by their various research interests and their values in promoting benefits to all of humanity.
Activities
Much of the work in biomedical engineering consists of research and development, spanning a broad array of subfields. Prominent biomedical engineering applications include the development of biocompatible prostheses, various diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices ranging from clinical equipment to micro-implants, common imaging equipment such as MRIs and EEGs, biotechnologies such as regenerative tissue growth, and pharmaceutical drugs and biopharmaceuticals.
The association thus aims at providing advanced education and training for engineers to enable them to meet the specialized needs of managing technology in the world’s health care system, to equip students with the background and skills to qualify for certification in clinical engineering.
