Department Strength

The Information Technology Department of Vidyalankar Institute of Technology was established in the year 1999. The department believes in the success formula of: People, Process, Technology as integral components for successful transformation initiatives. The department hosts well-equipped Laboratories , incubation centre for research for funded projects, external collaboration with foreign universities, ICT enabled teaching learning processes and is supported by dynamic faculty with specialization in core competencies. Department also takes initiative in providing Value Added Courses to students to help them gain certifications from reputed companies like Microsoft and Oracle which supports placement opportunities. Our students also bring several laurels by actively participating and winning several technical competitions like Smart India Hackathon and TCS Codevita. Our alumni who are entrepreneurs or are placed in several multinational companies also remains connected with their alma mater.

The Department of Information Technology, Vidyalankar Institute of Technology has a right combination of experienced and young enthusiastic faculty members. While few of our notable faculties have doctoral degree, many are pursuing it from reputed universities. They also have expertise in various cutting-edge technologies of IT like Data Science, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Cyber Security, Block chain and Internet of Things. Dr. Vipul Dalal, Dr. Dilip Motwani and Dr. Vidya Chitre are the member of Research Advisory Committee for Ph.D. students in various research centers.

The Department which started in the year 1999 focuses on bridging the gap between campus education and industry needs through internships, guest lectures and workshops. It aims towards creating a benchmark in Information Technology endowed with high quality state-of-the-art laboratories & ICT enabled classroom infrastructure of international standards to harness the needs of the curriculum and technological requirements of our students.

About Research Publications

Department has always identified the importance of research to gain the momentum with emerging advancement in technology. Students and faculty members of the information technology department have published papers in reputed International journals and conferences like Springer, IEEE, Elsevier, ACM, Scopus indexed and peer reviewed UGC approved journals. Many faculties have also published books/books chapters in their domain.

Intelligent Security Lock by Shashank Sapaliga, Prathamesh Majgaonkar, Pratik Meher, Varad Pandit under the guidance of Dr. Sachin Bojewar. The design of the Intelligent Security Lock prototype acts as a smart electronic/digital door locking system. The idea is to control the lock using a mobile app via Bluetooth. The lock satisfies comprehensive security requirements using state of the art technologies. It provides strong authentication using face recognition on app. It stores records of all lock/unlock operations with date and time. It also provides intrusion detection notification and real-time camera surveillance on the app.

Student Achievements


The Department has channelized the energy of its multi-talented students in many co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Mr. Ninad Chaudhari is one of our vibrant Alumnus currently pursuing PhD, Computer Science from University at Albany, was awarded national/international medals in Rifle Shooting for which he still holds the National record. Mr. Hitesh Solanki having won the Bronze Medal in K1 Event, Category Senior(Boys) Cadet Weight -75kg in the “National Kickboxing Championship” held in Chattisgarh. Mr. Chinmay Gunishastri is a part of the Kridarang Cricket Club and is playing the official Mumbai Cricket Association tournament like prestigious Kanga League, Cosmopolitan shield etc & has also made his captaincy debut in the prestigious Bombay Junior Shield of the MCA. Mr. Ajay Kulkarni, was qualified for Bayer Scholarship for Academic and Career Excellence and won best Project - IEEE award. Mr. Mayank Birla has set a Guinness World Record by participating on a World Record Attempt (Successful) by Microsoft at KTPO Bangalore.


Technical Activities

The Department provides a wide range of opportunities to students and faculties to grow technically. The department has received grants for conducting VAC, FDP, STTP, and workshops. Department fetched a grant of Rs. 5 lakh for STTP on “Virtualization, Cloud Computing and Big Data” and Rs. 3 lakh for FDP on “Open Data Science with IoT”. Technical Student committees of the Department like ITSA and ACM gives a platform for students to work together to organize various technical events like competitions, workshops, seminars, webinars and expert talk in all the cutting-edge technology like Cyber Security, Machine Learning, IoT, Cloud Computing, Game Development etc.

Students Projects

Research Projects and Patents strengthen the technical dimension of the Department and are a step forward to technological enhancements and innovations. Research contributions by our students with guidance from our expert faculty help to showcase their application oriented skills. Mr. Ashish Gaikwad, has applied for a Patent on “Code Sharing Web Platform with Intelligent Developer Suggestion Tool”.

Internships

Internship is an attempt to bridge the gap in student’s perception between theory in books and practice in the IT industry. Department motivates and helps students to undertake an internship at any organization/company and also initiates in-house internships. Some noted internships of our students are Nikita Bhrugumaharshi in University of Alberta-Edmonton, Aniket Singh in IIT Allahabad, Snehal Bodekar in HRDD BARC training school, Anurag Khanna in Defence Research & Development Lab, Sandesh Arote in IIT Mumbai, Rohan Vania and Abhiraj Taral in Indian Oil Corporation, Saumaan Momin in Oracle corporation, Kunjal Devrukhkar in Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay, Sonali Tanavde in L&T, Mumbai etc. This gives students a hands-on exposure to the real-world industry standard projects before graduation.

Placements

Department nurtures students through pre-placement activities that help them gain confidence for cracking interviews and make them industry ready. Many of our students have occupied good position with reputed firms like UNIQLO, Works Application, LTI, TCS, Reliance Jio and many more. A few of our students have bagged prestigious placements. Ms. Mythri Ravindra is placed in UNIQLO with a whooping package of 37.5 Lakhs per annum. Mr. Nikhil Gulamkar, Mr. Mehul Porwal and Mr. Anish Kulkarni are placed in Works Applications, a Japanese company with a package of 35 Lakhs per annum.

Department of Information Technology also believes to develop and strengthen entrepreneurial qualities in the budding professionals who are interested in starting their own ventures as well. Many of our students have set the milestones for the same. Mr. Abhinav Mishra started Value3 Advisory Fintech startup which is awarded as top 10 startups in Europe by NASSCOM India.

Student Activities

The Department encourages students to actively participate in inter-college, national and International Competitions and Hackathons. This extends the knowledge they learn in classrooms to real-world use cases enabling them to tap into their best potential.

Notable achievements in Hackathons and project competitions is Mr. Utkarsh Chandel who has not only won various Smart India Hackathons, but is also currently developing a project for the University of Mumbai. Mr. Ritwik Mukherjee and team won 1st price in state- level Hackathon. Mr. Afzal Khan, Mr. Yash Kamtekar and Mr. Vignesh Dhuri, won 1st prize for presenting a technical project in the Technical Project Expo ” Technovation‘20 ”. Ms Yukta Padgaonkar secured 1st Runner up in “VANGUARD-National Case Study Conclave” along with her team members Anuj Joshi, Saurabh Lengare and Prashant Channe. Apart from competitions our students also contribute their volunteering services to social causes by actively involving themselves in NSS activities to benefit the society.

Our alumni have won accolades in their respective areas of specialization. Star Alumni Abhinav Mishra, Founder, Value3 Advisory won the Best FinTech Startup Award under Wealth, Asset and Investment Management category at the Nasscom India FinTech Awards 2019. Some of our alumni are also pursuing their higher studies from institutes of repute like IIM Shillong, University of Albany, University of Maryland etc. They fly high in their professional fronts yet bring home to their alma mater experiences of their journey to forthcoming batches of students to reach the echelons of success

Laboratories Highlights

Practical Hands-on Laboratories are the backbone of any Institute’s Learning Curve. The department is equipped with high configuration specialized labs with 16GB RAM enabled machines that support learning of latest technologies like Big Data, Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and High-performance Computing. We have a prestigious lab with 20 machines configured with Mac Operating system. Our labs are equipped with many open source and licensed software like MATLAB, Oracle and IBM Rational Rose which students working relentlessly on for their application-oriented projects.

Awards

Appreciation goes a long way as a Motivator. Department has always strived to bring in noted recognitions in various fields not just technical, but also co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Mr. Ninad Chaudhari who was a National Level Rifle Shooter. He holds 2 National Records in Rifle Shooting. Indo-Bhutan Shooting Championship (Silver medal in the 300M Rifle 3 Position Men event)

Adding to that Ms. Ashwini Manjare and Ms.Payal Naik were shortlisted among top 6 teams and eventually winning 2nd Runner Up in New Zealand India Sustainability Challenge (#NZISC) held in New Delhi. Mr Suhas Kadam made our department proud by securing 5th rank in National Level TCS CodeVita competition 2017 and 17th Rank in International CodeVita Competition. Also he and his team members Ismail Shaikh and Shubham Ambavale scored 5th Place in IEEE Xtreme Coding Competition at National level and 109th rank at global level. It’s not just our students but also faculty bring in recognition to the department. Dr. Anuradha Bhatia and Dr. Seema Shah were awarded with Best teacher award, CSI. Dr. Deepali Vora’s publication was awarded the best paper award in an International conference. Prof. Varsha Bhosale was invited as a speaker in TEDx talks.

Programme Outcomes

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
